Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project
Many small coffee farmers, some twenty million in
South America and Africa, often struggle just to make a
simple living. Many lack access to adequate health
care and education for their children. Many are
trapped in hand to mouth poverty. Cocoa and coffee
are big business and the low prices paid to the small
scale farmers have kept them in poverty. This
project invites us to use coffee and cocoa that is
fairly traded. Lutheran World Relief's fair trade
partner is Equal Exchange, a worker-owned cooperative
committed to the principles of fair trade. As we
consider the impact of debt on people in the developing
world, we can also consider the impact of our own
purchasing choices. Let your purchasing choice be
to order some fair-trade coffee or chocolate.
Coffee will now be ordered approximately every 3
months. Order forms found on the back of the
"Trinity Lutheran" newsletter.
