Parish Nurse - Providing Holistic Health

Holy Trinity added a parish nurse to its staff several years ago. The parish nurse concept is based on the history of the early church when deacons and deaconesses cared for the ill and poor of the community. Today scientific medicine is aware of its limitations and looks for assistance from health educators to help people manage their own health and prevent illness. The church works with scientific medicine to care for people in a holistic manner by caring for people in spirit, mind, and body.      

The parish nurse has several roles. She integrates faith and health, offers spiritual and emotional help as needed, is a health advocate, a counselor, an educator, a coordinator of volunteers, and facilitator of support groups.
